Overview
Polysilicon ingot furnaces and monocrystal pullers run above 1300 °C for days at a time, and the temperature profile decides ingot quality. Sensors must hold their calibration through a long campaign while surviving steep gradients and thermal cycling.
Key Points
Choose the type by atmosphere. Type S, R or B is used in the hot zone; base-metal types are used on the cooler stages.
Plan for thermal shock. Charging and cooling cycles crack brittle sheaths — mineral-insulated construction handles this far better.
Insulate the supports. High-purity ceramic and BN parts keep the measuring circuit isolated at temperature.
Redundancy pays off. Dual-element sensors let you detect a drifting element without stopping the run.
Summary
Because a failed sensor can ruin an entire ingot, most plants specify dual elements plus a scheduled insulation-resistance check between campaigns.
