Overview
Mineral-insulated thermocouples are chosen for their combination of flexibility, fast response and mechanical strength. Five decisions cover almost every application.
Key Points
1. Calibration type. Set by the temperature range and atmosphere — K or N for general use, S/R/B above 1200 °C.
2. Sheath diameter. Smaller is faster but less robust; 3–6 mm covers most industrial duties.
3. Sheath material. Select against the medium: stainless steel, Inconel or a high-temperature alloy.
4. Junction type. Grounded for fast response, insulated for noise immunity, exposed only for clean gases.
5. Termination and cable. Head, connector or flying leads, and the matching extension or compensating cable.
Summary
Give these five parameters on the enquiry and you will receive a part number that can be built and calibrated without a second round of questions.
